Dreaming of Capri...

We adore Capri. It's one of the most beautiful places to travel for a holiday on the planet.
Here are just a few of our favorite places on the island from our personal archives...

Spectacular views can be seen from virtually any spot on the island...

The blue grotto is not to be missed as it is one the seven natural wonders of Europe.

Kick back and relax on a private boat tour, munching on gelato all the while...

We can't get over how much we loved this seashell chair at the Quisisana Hotel.

The end to every perfect day was dinner on a terrace like this.

If we can't make it in person, we'll go there via our favorite parfum...

or the perfectly fragrant Capri Blue candles...

(Available in store at the lady & the sailor)

With these scents around at least we can close our eyes and pretend we're back on the island we love so much!

Carmageddon, time to take it easy...

Even if you aren't living in Los Angeles, chances are you have heard about the 405 freeway closing this weekend for repairs and the pandemonium that has ensued around this semi-apocolyptic event. (P.S. It's only closing for 3 days)

Luckily, we've got some excellent suggestions to turn this weekend into the perfect relaxing mini-vacation at home.

The first thing you'll need to do is pick up a stack of European magazines at your local magazine stand.
August has been showing us some phenomenal covers from around the world...

While you're perusing those from cover to cover, make sure you're as comfy as can be in your hoodie by the lady & the sailor...

These tops make for the perfect couch-side attire!

Traffic around the city will be hectic, so best leave the driving to the delivery guy and order in your favorite pie from Santa Monica's Joe's Pizza (http://www.joespizza.com/).

(We like their white pizza the best)

Alternatively, if you're in Beverly Hills we suggest Mulberry Street Pizza (http://www.mulberrypizzeria.com/)

yum!

In LA we tend to be a city of drivers instead of walkers, so this weekend is the perfect chance to take a stroll through your neighborhood...

...and to stop and smell the roses.

Heat Wave...

Perhaps 95 degrees feels glamorous in Cannes,

but in Los Angeles it doesn't quite have the same appeal! This week has been scorching hot and when it gets this warm, there are a few tried and trusted ways we like to beat the heat...

Ace & Jig makes the perfect dress for the midsummer heat, click "shop" for sizes

Next we'll take a trip to Brentwood's Sweet Rose Creamery for their salted caramel ice cream! 2 scoops please...

Or maybe we'll just do as resident frenchie Clyde does... this one never fails!

Muse...

Jane Birkin has long held the title of style icon. Emerging in the 1960's as one of the leading movie stars of the decade, her effortless beauty has inspired designers throughout the past 50 years.

She was, after all, the inspiration for the world's most coveted handbag.

Rumour has it that while on an AirFrance flight from Paris to London, Jane brought out her Hermes datebook, and all the papers inside fell out onto the floor. She remarked to the gentleman next to her,
"This book should really have pockets!"
It just so happened that she was seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, the chairman of Hermes. After hearing her complaint, Dumas created the Birkin bag and the rest is history.

We personally love Jane Birkin for inspiring one of our favorite summer pieces by Los Angeles based cult fan favorite designer, Otis & Maclain.

The Birkin short is the perfect classic high waisted short. You can throw them on with just about anything, but we love to wear them with a basic tee tucked in and a flare cardi tossed over. Click on the "shop" button to shop the look!

J'adore!

la femme et de la bicyclette

Summertime is for many wonderful things . Like long days spent at the beach, outdoor music festivals and sweet icey lemonade, some things are synonymous with summer.
Not to be forgotten, a summer essential the world over has always been the girl and her bicycle. Here are a few of our favorites...

And pulled out of last summer's archives...

...another babe and her bike and basket! Also note her other ever-present San Sebastian essentials, the lady & the sailor basic tee and  Soludos!

Click the "shop" button for more colors and sizes.

And lastly, this beach picture. Just because.

Montecito

One of our favorite California destinations is Montecito. We find inspiration just behind every corner in the American Riviera...
Take Madame Ganna Walska, the eccentric Polish performer-come-collector-of-husbands. This fabulous woman spends her days at her 37 acre botanical paradise "Lotusland," cultivating some of the world's most rare flowers and plants, all the while decked to the nines in her incredible jewelry collection.

Oprah also lives just around the corner so Montecito is confirmed fantastic.

Then there is San Ysidro Ranch.

A famous destination for Hollywood couples

Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh were married here,

The Kennedy's took their honeymoon here,

And one of our favorite faces Lily Aldridge, tied the knot with Caleb Folliwill here just this May.

But our favorite thing about San Ysidro? The ribs and the mac & cheese at The Stonehouse restaurant, sit outside for stunning ocean views if you can! Lovely.

If we are dining in, we love to visit Pierre Lafond wine bar and market on San Ysidro road for the most delicious treats like their own label's caramel and oreo popcorn.

Be sure to head downstairs to Wendy Foster to browse the newest delivery from the lady & the sailor, just shipped to them today!
